ABOUT

Capella Regalis Choirs presents a rich and varied concert program of sacred and secular anthems featuring repertoire from their newest album, Songs of the Sea,with choir, organ, piano, and percussion. Expect a feast for the ears showcasing a Maritime-based choral ensemble performing a range of works from Gregorian chant to sea shanties. Bringing together sacred pieces of the choral canon with fresh arrangements of traditional folksongs from around the world by multi-Grammy Award-winning composer Paul Halley, this concert offers an exciting mix of music that is sure to delight!


The concert will be preceded by a talk.


PROGRAM

The first half of the concert program will feature selections from the choir’s extensive evensong repertoire, including settings of the Magnificat by Herbert Howells and Charles V. Stanford, epic anthems such as I Was Glad by Charles Hubert H. Parry, and other works from Gregorian chant to Baroque composers and Renaissance polyphony through to 20th-century works. 


The second half of the program will feature contemporary arrangements of folksongs from around the world, with particular emphasis on songs from Maritime traditions, including historical gems from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
