Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain

Immerse yourself in the dark, poetic world of Victor Hugo through this opera presented by the Nouvel Opéra Métropolitain, based on the novel of the same name. Both metaphorical and poetic, L’Homme qui rit invites us to follow the adventures of its title character, Gwynplaine, who was disfigured as a child and now bears the indelible mark of suffering and injustice. This masterful work, whose evocative poetry is gracefully enhanced by the engaging contemporary orchestration, leads us to reflect on the fundamental values that bring meaning to our lives. Beauty and ugliness, love and betrayal, past and destiny all come together in this poignant, compelling show that will sweep you up in a whirlwind of emotion and reflection.
